Mekdes (Mek) Ward (She/her) is a 4th-year Bachelor of Social Work student with an Ethiopian background. Mek has lived in Australia for the majority of her life and has completed all levels of schooling in Australia. Mek has come to Australia through the

process of adoption. Mek is studying at the Royal Institute of Technology in Melbourne. Mek has had experience working with people experiencing housing instability, assisting those with AOD usage and working in education support for children with diagnoses of autism and ADHD. Mek acknowledges that she works, studies and lives on Indigenous lands and values a framework that respects and honours diverse cultural experiences and knowledge.

Mek values working from a trauma informed lens and a strengths based approach. Mek uses her lived experiences of mental health and an intersectional lens to advocate for culturally responsive care. Mek is interested in working individually and with families and is motivated by compassion and a commitment to delivering support and services that affirm people’s needs.
