According to the World Health Organization (WHO), burnout is a syndrome arising from chronic workplace stress that has not been effectively managed. It manifests through three dimensions: feelings of exhaustion or energy depletion, increased mental distance or negative attitude towards one's job, and reduced professional efficacy.
However, this understanding of burnout has limitations as it fails to consider the additional psychosocial and structural factors contributing to it. It also overlooks the specific risk factors for burnout faced by individuals with marginalized identities. However, Pola Practice’s burnout workshop looks at burnout from an intersectional perspective.
