Psychology Placement (Final Year)
Ly Nguyen (she/they) is a Vietnamese woman, beginner researcher, teaching associate, visual artist, and aspiring provisional psychologist. She moved to Naarm/Wurundjeri land in 2019 as an international student and has lived and worked on these lands since. Ly’s experiences of coming of age in a new country and navigating identity across cultures shape how she approaches her work and how she connects with her communities.
Ly is motivated by her own lived experience and is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for her communities, including migrant and LGBTQIA+ communities. She is deeply interested in trauma, mood disorders, and personality disorders, and has experience working with both adults and children. Ly has supported people in both online and in-person settings and values meeting individuals where they are.
Ly embraces an integrative therapeutic framework, adapting her approach depending on each client’s needs, goals, and cultural context. Her practice is informed by evidence-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-based frameworks, with a strong emphasis on collaborative formulation and values-based care. Alongside her training in psychology, her background as a visual artist informs her appreciation for creativity, expression, and different ways of understanding lived experiences.
