Fahad Jawaid
Counsellor and Family Therapist
Fahad (he/they) is a migrant person of color from Pakistan, based in Djilang (Geelong) on unceded Wadawurrung Country. Fahad has lived and worked as a counsellor in Pakistan and Australia and specializes in working with LGBTIQA+ identifying clients and their families, People of Colour (PoC), migrants, people from refugee or asylum-seeking background and victim survivors of family violence and sexual assault.
As a migrant person of color with lived experience of trauma, Fahad understands the complexities of moving to a new country and dealing with issues related to racism, Islamophobia and queerphobia. Creating safety, building trust, deconstructing power dynamics, challenging patriarchy, and working with intersectionality sits at the core of Fahad’s practice.
With over 8 years of experience in counselling, Fahad has worked with different not-for-profit organisations in addition to independent practice as a clinician, clinical supervisor and training consultant. Fahad uses different therapeutic modalities including Person Centred Therapy, Trauma Informed Therapy, Strengths-based Framework, Transactional Analysis, CBT, Psychodynamic Theories, and Family Inclusive Practice.
Fahad likes to work in collaborative and holistic manner by keeping their clients at the center. They speak Urdu, Hindi and English in a native/bilingual capacity and Punjabi and Sindhi in a limited working proficiency.
