Placement Student, Social Work

My An (MAT) (She/Her) is a Chinese-Vietnamese-Singaporean woman with a diverse professional background spanning Business, Psychology, and Social Work. She is currently training to become a qualified Mental Health Social Worker. Over the past five years, MAT has gained experience in counselling related to anxiety, depression, alcohol and other drug (AOD), and grief, particularly working with people of colour from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences. Her strong commitment to inclusive, client centred, and culturally responsive practice is reflected in her work. MAT’s therapeutic approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for each individual’s story.

In parallel, MAT has worked in corporate operations for the past seven years, which has deepened her understanding of the unique mental health challenges and workplace stressors individuals face in professional environments. This dual exposure to the corporate and community sectors allows her to support organisational wellbeing and individual mental health in an integrated, informed manner.

Outside of her professional life, MAT maintains an active lifestyle that supports her wellbeing. She enjoys cycling, yoga, boxing, and weight training to stay grounded, along with camping, hiking, colouring, nail art, and exploring new technologies as creative outlets. These personal interests bring balance to her life and shape her holistic, practical therapeutic approach.

MAT is passionate about mental health advocacy in the Asian community and committed to advancing women’s rights. She practises through a trauma informed, intersectional lens and is dedicated to ongoing professional development, including further training in CBT, ACT, and Narrative Therapy.
